Jorgensen Family YMCA
Jorgensen YMCA
Fort Wayne, IN
New Construction
Project Description:
The first aspect of the plans that becomes apparent is the angle that divides the building in half. This was done to increase the sense of space and volume in the front of the building where the traffic flow is the greatest while providing an interesting view down the long gallery to the locker rooms and aerobics area.
Another vital planning concept is the organization of many of the spaces around the “lounge”. The goal is to create a space where a parent can view the rock climbing wall, the pool, youth activity area and kid’s gymnasium from a central location. This concept also creates a great deal of motion, excitement and visual interest near the front entry and main desk.
Other notable design concepts include a zero-depth entry pool for toddlers, family locker rooms, enrichment classroom with views of the pool, and a geothermal heating and cooling system.
Extensive three-dimensional modeling has been done to allow the staff, user groups, the Board and potential YMCA benefactors to envision what this structure could look like, as well as easily change features such as window color, shingle type and masonry details. This modeling will also allow a full animation of the YMCA’s exterior and interior to be done with very little effort.
